Menswear and The Desert
Talking to one of menswear editorial’s most talented, humble and wonderful men, Terry Lu from Essential Homme told me he’d just returned from shooting menswear in the desert. This lit a fire in me, Menswear and The Desert, and with a trip to LA booked, Benjamin and I were decided. Bffl Kaleena Zanders was down for the road trip too, and we worked with LA Models for Alex Bechet and Alizee Gaillard, and DT for Drew Hudson.
Obviously we rented a vintage drop-top Mustang for the journey, and drove out to a spot on the old historic Route 66 to shoot. The abandoned gas station you see was sketchy; a bunch of kids playing with a snake on the side of the road with no obvious sign of any adults for miles, and just the occasional truck driver streaming passed us going God knows where.
But we had trunks full of fashion: Etro linen suits, David Hart Hawaiian shirts, Orley knits, ODD, Robert Geller, Timo Weiland, Bally of Switzerland, and Richard Chai to name a few.
Menswear and the desert.
And our models weren’t shy at all; that’s always fun too.
