To anyone else, Pitti Uomo 87 would seem unwieldy. The USB drive that sat so sweetly in a small black velvet pouch on each person’s plate in the private room at NoHo’s Il Buco Alimentari e Vineria, unpacked to a staggering 16 separate press releases, each for another exciting initiative. Pitti Immagine CEO Raffaello Napoleone though, takes it all in stride.
Firstly, the Fortezza is getting some work done. Not a little tuck here and a little tuck there, but a multi-million dollar investment that will change the face of the Florentine trade show.
Secondly, the event schedule, always spectacular, is more so than ever. Menswear guest designer Marni will present an exclusive fashion show; Pitti special guest Hood by Air will produce an event; fashion historian Olivier Saillard has written and will direct an interactive performance piece starring Tilda Swinton and titled The Cloakroom; Andrea Incontri will present his FW14 collection; Peuterey will produce the Special Event@Pitti Uomo 87; Pitti Italics guests Arrivo will stage a performance-event for the world premiere of their first duo-project; the two winners of Who Is On Next will premier their collections; AND Liberty Fairs will debut Born In The USA, 20 brands made in America that will showcase their collections in Florence this January.
And thirdly, Raffaello managed to present all these initiatives in detail, talk personally to everyone in the room, and find time to actually eat some lunch. While my head’s still spinning, he’s probably working on another special segment. Bravo.
